Before cataract surgery, anti-VEGF, steroids, or laser can improve your vision. As a result vision loss can be prevented. It requires prolonged intensive post-operative care. Doctors warn that if diabetic retinopathy is diagnosed late, it can lead to permanent vision loss or blindness. 

Also, diabetic retinopathy should be monitored to prevent vision loss, which means regular blood tests.  You also have to make lifestyle changes. You should reduce the percentage of carbohydrates in your diet and also take the protein percentage in equal proportions.   Experts say that only then will diabetes come under control.  Medications to control diabetes should also be taken.
